Technology term 4

This term we were in Mrs. Ward's technology group.


What I thought I did well was that I made my label very strong and helped others. What I could have done better was use wider tape.

This is the question our group thought that this was the best one when we first started. We chose to stay with this one.

The text we read : We highlighted words or ideas we didn't understand in red. Then we talked about erosion: what it is and the damage it caused.

Writing term 4


One Sunday morning my family and I were getting up out of bed. Suddenly there was a rattling. We all quickly got under the table and the house fell. My dad said "is everyone alright"
"I want to do it again" said Tom. 
"Well you can't" yelled dad now our house has been destroyed by the earthquake. I don't want to have to live on the street with no house I said. After a year of living on the on the side of the street a tall man with a big black suit on came to us. He said why are here you should be in a house.
 Come with me you can all come and live with me in my 2 story house. 
"Www well ok". He did look very rich so I asked him if he 
"could get us some clothes" and he said 
"sure" 
"thank you so much" I said. Now we all were as happy as anyone could ever be. So after all those things we did. He gave us lots of money so we could buy a house again. That man became my dad's best friend after that. Two days a week we would go fishing with him and get ice creams he was like an uncle to me. Then he got married to a lady called Joanna and they had 2 kids called Larry and Bob. Larry was 8 and Bob was 7. Sometimes we would go over for sleepovers and have midnight feasts. 



I chose this example because:

it was a big piece of writing and had lots of describing words.




Comment from the teacher:

You have some interesting ideas Alfie.  Now you need to look at organising your information into groups (paragraphs). Then you can add more information into some of the shorter sentences.  Look at the sentence below.  Where could you separate it into a paragraph that would help your reader to get a sense of time?

How I used the information in this comment to improve my writing:

I grouped my writing put more information in it.




What I need to work on now to improve my writing is:

to describe what the kids and the mum looked like.

Term 2 Writing: recount

The crowd was getting bigger and I was getting more squished. Finally the doors opened. We all walked inside to the hall and sat down. I couldn't believe that I was inside Hastings intermediate. Then a man walked up up onto the stage and introduced himself to the crowd. Then a kapahaka group came out. They were Havlock North intermediate and they were awesome. Next it was our turn I go onto the stage. I was so nervous. Then the boys went in front and we sang the song potania. When we went off I was puffed.

I have been working on making my writing more descriptive. I want to improve my writing by putting in more adjectives.

Writing term 1


WILF   

  • I use short (simple) sentences correctly.

  • I make some sentences longer by joining them with conjunctions (joining words) like ‘and’, ‘but’ or ‘because’.

  • I sometimes use conjunctions (joiners) correctly to start my sentences. eg ‘Before . . .’ , ‘After . . .’ , When . . .’ , Because . . .’ ‘When . . .’.

  • I use ‘tense’ (past, present or future) correctly most of the time



Writing Task:

Think back to a really special experience you have had.   It might be a birthday, a family dinner or a trip somewhere.  Write a recount about it.


One morning I got out of bed and hopted in the car and then my family got in.Then we drove to mountin valley it took us an hour and a half.When we got there we got out of the car and un packed our stuff.Then we went to the river and had a big swim.Then our cool cosins got here and we came back from the river and went to bed.The next day it was Christmas and I got a pocket knife and a wallet.I thanked my mum and dad so much for my presents.We started to play with our awesome toys.We went to the river again and jumped off a big slipery rock in the middle of the river.Then we went back and set up our tent. We all

helped set it up.Then all our family ternd up we hoped on our bikes and rode around the grass.We went into our nana and Popas camper van and went up stairs.My brother pushed me out of the camper van and I hurt my arm. I went down to the river with my dad and he picked up a dead slimy eel.We went back to the tent and went to bed The next day we played tag with my family and then went home."That was fun I said"
